Labiaplasty

Many women are concerned with the appearance of their genital area which can be an embarrassing problem which can even lead to sexual dissatisfaction or difficulty. Some are just not happy with the genitalia they were born with. However, in many cases the labia and surrounding tissue change in shape and size with aging and childbirth. Elongated vaginal lips can also cause pain during sexual intercourse or exercise.

Many women, therefore, decide to undergo Labiaplasty which is the surgical procedure to trim and shape the labia, in other words the lips, of the vagina.

The surgeon can reduce the excess tissue along the edges of the labia by trimming along the inner folds until the labia no longer protrude. Alternatively they can cut out a wedge of tissue from the underneath of the labia, the edges of which are then sewn back together.

Labiaplasty usually takes about 1 hour and can be performed under either local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia. As with all procedures under general anaesthesia an overnight stay in the clinic is required whereas in the case of local the patient is free to return home a few hours after the operation. Stitches will be removed after around 10 days.
