Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers provide a quick non-surgical solution to the lines associated with ageing, and to other depressions such as acne scars. They also have many other uses including restoring smoothness and volume to the skin and lip augmentation.

When dermal fillers are used, movement and sensation remain unaffected. Additionally, skin and lips will both look and feel soft and natural.

These treatments provide instant and impressive results, they require no recovery period and, in most cases, patients are able to return to work immediately.

The duration of the effects varies, depending on the filler used.

Temporary Fillers

These are usually based on hyaluronic acid and incorporate all the benefits desired by medical staff and patients.  In other words, they are nontoxic, biodegradable and biocompatible fillers which offer impressive, safe, natural looking and reasonably long lasting results.

Temporary fillers can be used to treat all types of superficial and medium depth wrinkles as well as to remodel the lip contours and increase lip volume.

The technology employed involves non-animal origin cross–linked hyaluronic acid which is combined with bio-stimulating free hyaluronic acid.

The effects last between 8 and 18 months depending on the actual product used, the patient and the area treated.

Semi permanent Fillers

Poly–lactic acid is a semi-permanent injectable filler which works by stimulating build up of the body’s own collagen to smooth out lines and wrinkles, whilst also restoring lost facial volume. It is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss and the overall effect is a youthful appearance with gradual natural looking results which can last for up to 3 years.

Another semi permanent filler is Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) which is primarily recommended for the correction of small and large soft tissue deficits although it can also be used for facial shaping and contouring. Once injected into the skin, the spherical CaHA particles form a ‘scaffold’ which enables new tissue to grow and collagenesis.  The effects last for approximately 2 years depending on the patient and the area treated.

Both of these semi-permanent fillers are composed of safe, synthetic and biocompatible substances which do not require skin testing prior to their use.

Permanent Fillers

The only permanent injectable implant used for the long lasting correction of wrinkles and other skin depressions is based on PMMA (poly–methyl-methacrylate) microspheres.

This safe, permanent filler is commonly used for folds and wrinkles on the face, acne scars, laugh lines, horizontal forehead lines, frown lines, marionette lines, lip augmentation, irregularities of the nose, augmentation of the nipples, subcutaneous  skin defects, augmentation of the cheekbones and small facial bone or hand bone defects.

This technique utilizes the the body’s natural ability to encapsulate foreign bodies. The PMMA microspheres are suspended in a collagen solution which also contains an anaesthetic for the relief of post treatment tenderness. The solution is injected into the skin. Within the next three months the PMMA microspheres become surrounded by connective tissue causing the desired result which can last for 10 years or longer.
